Get Your Yak On!
Vermont Yak Company Expects First Shipment of 24 Yaks
Mad River Valley, Vermont’s newest farm business – the Vermont Yak Company – announced the mid-April arrival of 24 yaks to Steadfast Farm. The animals will be raised by three families for meat, fiber, agri-tourism, and bottle-fed hobby animals on close to thirty acres of land on the west side of Route 100, nestled between the Green Mountains and the Mad River.
“We’re excited to be driving 24 hours out to John Hooper’s farm in Cold Spring, Minnesota to purchase and herd the yaks into a 53-foot-long animal trailer, and bring them back to Vermont,” said co-owner Ted Laskaris. “We have plenty to learn about caring for our new four-legged neighbors – and we’re excited to dive right in.”
The Vermont Yak Company Mission is defined as “raising and breeding grass-fed yak for organic meat and fiber to help build a more diverse and sustainable agrarian future for the greater Green Mountain region.”
